ফ্রি নোড (freenode) নেটওয়ার্ক উইকিপিডিয়ার জন্য ২৪-ঘন্টা চ্যাট সার্ভিস এর সুবিধা দিয়ে থাকে, এখানে কোন উইকিপিডিয়ান অন্যান্যদের সাথে সরাসরি আলাপচারিতায় অংশ নিতে পারবেন। একজন চাইলে একটি উইন্ডোতে চ্যাট করতে পারবেন এবং অন্য উইন্ডোতে উইকিপিডিয়ায় কাজ করে যেতে পারবেন। যে চ্যাট রুম গুলো উইকিপিডিয়ার জন্য ব্যবহার করা হয়ে থাকে সেগুলো হলো:
ইন্টারনেট রিলে চ্যাট (আই আর সি) চ্যানেলের আরেক নাম "চ্যাট রুম"।. চ্যাট রুমে অংশগ্রহণের জন্যে আপনার প্রয়োজন বিশেষ ধরণের প্রোগ্রাম বা প্লাগ-ইন যাকে বলা হয় আই আর সি ক্লায়েন্ট। কতগুলি জনপ্রিয় ক্লায়েন্ট-এর মধ্যে আছে- উইন্ডোজের জন্যে এম আই আর সি [mIRC], ম্যাক ও এস এক্স এর জন্যে কল্লোয়ি [colloyuy], ফায়ারফক্স এর জন্যে চ্যাটজিলা [ChatZilla] এবং এক্স-চ্যাট[X-Chat].

Some users stay logged-in to the chatrooms whenever they are on Wikipedia, and check in on the discussions from time to time, to read what's been accumulating there and to participate. Some programs used for chatting "beep" you whenever there is activity in a chat room so you won't miss anything. Often, users jump onto a chat room to draw the attention of others there of something on Wikipedia that needs attention.

উইপিডিয়া IRC কিভাবে উইকিপিডিয়ার সাথে সম্পর্কযুক্ত?[সম্পাদনা]
ফ্রি নোড এ ব্যবহৃত চ্যানেলগুলো IRC ব্যবহারের মাধ্যমে chat করার একটি স্থান। IRC অনেকটা email এর মতো, এখানে কোন ব্যক্তি যে কোন বিষয় নিয়ে আলাপ করতে সক্ষম। তাদের আলাপ সম্পূর্ণ গোপন থাকবে। যে কোন উইকিপিডিয়ান যে কোন বিষয় নিয়ে নিজের মনোভাব প্রকাশ করতে এবং আমাদের অনুবাদে সাহায্য করতে পারবেন।

- #wikimedia-bd is the wikimedia projects related IRC channel. This will probably be primarily Wikipedia, but all projects are welcome this way.
মূল চ্যানেল[সম্পাদনা]
- #wikipedia is the most-visited Wikipedia-related IRC channel, conversations are sometimes off-topic.
- #wikipedia-en is another channel, specifically for discussion of the English language Wikipedia, and is usually more on-topic but contains fewer users.
- #wikipedia-en-admins is a private channel used mainly by admins and some other users. Despite the name, the channel is - like every other IRC channel - completely unofficial. See /wikipedia-en-admins for detailed info.
- #wikipedia-en-help (formerly known as #wikipedia-bootcamp) is a help channel for Wikipedians. It also receives bot notifications when {{helpme}} is used about questions at the Help Desk and other places. Friendly helpers are voiced here.
- #wikipedia-en-unblock is a channel for the discussion and review of blocks. Administrators and unblock-en-l subscribers are voiced.

- #wikimedia-social is a relatively new channel intended primarily for social discussion among contributors to Wikimedia projects.
- #wikipedia-social is similar to the above, for social conversation among wikipedians.
- #wikipedia-en-casual is a channel for casual discussion. All users are welcome.

- #wikiproject is especially for Wikipedia:WikiProject coordination and collaboration.
- #countervandalism for requesting voice in restricted channels and technical help running a countervandalism channel
- #cvn-wp-en is listing and discussing current vandalism on the English Wikipedia (requires confirmation).
- #wikipedia-en-spam is a botfeed of all links added to English Wikipedia. Channel is for linkspam reverting. Feeds for other languages and projects also now exist.
- #wikipedia-spam-t ...and its associated talk channel.
- #wikipedia-SCV is a botfeed of all edits made to Wikipedia:Suspected copyright violations

Web browser-based access to freenode channels is available using Java at http://java.freenode.net. This is the preferred method of access, as it retains the user's original hostmask, unlike CGI:IRC sites, and is officially sanctioned by freenode.
