দ্রুত পরিবহন (মেট্রো)
বর্তমানে ভারতের দশটি শহরে ১১ টি কার্যকর দ্রুতগামী গণপরিবহন ('মেট্রো' নামেও পরিচিত) ব্যবস্থা রয়েছে। [1] ২০১৮ সালের সেপ্টেম্বরে ভারতের ৫১৫ কিলোমিটারের (৩২০ মাইল) ওপরে মেট্রো লাইন এবং ৩৮১ টি মেট্রো স্টেশন রয়েছে। আরো ৫০০+ কিমি লাইন নির্মাণাধীন রয়েছে। ভারতে মেট্রো রেল লাইন প্রধানত স্ট্যান্ডার্ড গেজ রেলপথ নিয়ে গঠিত হয়। কলকাতা মেট্রো এবং দিল্লি মেট্রোর মতো প্রকল্পগুলি তাদের প্রাথমিকতম লাইনগুলির জন্য ব্রডগেজ গেজ রেলপথ ব্যবহার করেছিল তবে ভারতে নতুন প্রকল্পগুলিতে স্ট্যান্ডার্ড গেজে রোলিং স্টক স্ট্যান্ডার্ড গেজ রেলপথের জন্য আমদানি করা হয়েছে।
ভারতে প্রথম দ্রুতগামী গণপরিবহন ব্যবস্থা হল কলকাতা মেট্রো, যা ১৯৮৪ সালে যাত্রী পরিবহন শুরু করে। দিল্লি মেট্রো সমগ্র দেশের মধ্যে বৃহত্তম মেট্রো রেল নেটওয়ার্ক গঠন করেছে। ২০১৯ সালের ২৫ জানুয়ারি নয়ডা মেট্রোটি ভারতের নবীনতম মেট্রো হিসাবে খোলা হয়।
