আল-কায়িদা বা আল-কায়দা ১৯৮৮ সালে প্রতিষ্ঠিত একটি আন্তঃদেশীয় সালাফিবাদ জঙ্গি সংগঠন ।[৪৫] ওসামা বিন লাদেন, আবদুল্লাহ আজমাম এবং সোভিয়েত-আফগান যুদ্ধের সময় বেশ কয়েকটি আরব স্বেচ্ছাসেবীর দ্বারা ১৯৮৮ সালে এটি প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়। আল-কায়েদা ইসলামি চরমপন্থী এবং সালাফিবাদী জিহাদিদের একটি নেটওয়ার্ক হিসাবে কাজ করে। সংগঠনটিকে জাতিসংঘের সুরক্ষা কাউন্সিল, উত্তর আটলান্টিক চুক্তি সংস্থা (ন্যাটো), ইউরোপীয় ইউনিয়ন, মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্র, যুক্তরাজ্য, রাশিয়া, ভারত এবং অন্যান্য বিভিন্ন দেশ সন্ত্রাসবাদী গোষ্ঠী হিসাবে মনোনীত করেছে। আল-কায়েদা ১৯৯৯ মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্র দূতাবাসে বোমা হামলা, ১১ ই সেপ্টেম্বর হামলা, এবং ২০০২ সালে বালি বোমা সহ বিভিন্ন দেশে অ-সামরিক ও সামরিক লক্ষ্যবস্তুতে হামলা চালিয়েছে।

২০১১ সালে ওসামা বিন লাদেনের মৃত্যুর পর এই গোষ্ঠীর নেতৃত্ব দিয়েছিলেন মিশরীয় আয়মান আল-জাওয়াহিরি।[৪৬]
