পটাশিয়াম নাইট্রেট হচ্ছে একটি রাসায়নিক পদার্থ যার রাসায়নিক সংকেত KNO3। এই যৌগটি পটাশিয়াম আয়ন K+ ও নাইট্রেট আয়ন NO3 এর একটি আয়নিক লবণ এবং এটি ক্ষারকীয় ধাতব নাইট্রেট।

নামকরণ[সম্পাদনা]

মানব সভ্যতার অনেক আদি থেকেই থেকে পটাশিয়াম নাইট্রেটের বৈশ্বিক ব্যবহার থাকায় স্থানভেদে এর বিভিন্ন নাম রয়েছে। গ্রীক শব্দ নাইট্রন লাতিনে রুপান্তরিত হয়েছে নাইট্রাম অথবা নাইট্রিয়াম নামে। ১৫ শতকে ইউরোপবাসীরা একে ‘সল্টপিটার’ নামে[৫] এবং পরবর্তীকালে ‘নাইট্রেট অফ পটাশ’ নামে উল্লেখ করতো।

আরবরা একে চীনের তুষার (আরবি: ثلج الصين থালজ আল-সিন) নামে ডাকতো। পারস্যবাসীরা (বর্তমান ইরান) একে চীনের লবণ(ফার্সী: نمک شوره چيني‎‎ নামক শুরা চিনি) নামে অভিহিত করতো।[৬][৭][৮][৯][১০] (ফার্সি: نمک شوره چيني namak shūra chīnī).[১১][১২]

ভৌত ধর্ম[সম্পাদনা]

কক্ষ তাপমাত্রায় পটাশিয়াম নাইট্রেট স্ফটিকাকারে থাকে যা ১২৯ °সে (২৬৪ °ফা) তাপমাত্রায় ট্রাইগোনাল সিস্টেমে রুপান্তরিত হয়। এই যৌগটি পানিতে মোটামুটি দ্রবণীয় কিন্তু তাপমাত্রা বৃদ্ধির সাথে এই লবণের দ্রবণীয়তা বৃদ্ধি পায়। জলীয় দ্রবণ প্রায় নিরপেক্ষ। ১৪ °সে (৫৭ °ফা) তাপমাত্রায় এরা pH ৬.২ প্রদর্শন করে।

উৎপাদন[সম্পাদনা]

অ্যামোনিয়াম নাইট্রেট এবং পটাশিয়াম হাইড্রোক্সাইড-এর বিক্রিয়ার মাধ্যমে পটাশিয়াম নাইট্রেট তৈরী করা যায়।

NH4NO3 (aq) + KOH (aq) → NH3 (g) + KNO3 (aq) + H2O (l)

অ্যামোনিয়াম নাইট্রেট এবং পটাশিয়াম ক্লোরাইডের বিক্রিয়ায় কোন উপজাত ছাড়াই পটাশিয়াম নাইট্রেট উৎপাদন করা যায়।

NH4NO3 (aq) + KCl (aq) → NH4Cl (aq) + KNO3 (aq)

পটাশিয়াম হাইড্রোক্সাইডের সাথে নাইট্রিক এসিডের বিক্রিয়ায় পটাশিয়াম নাইট্রেট পাওয়া যায়। বিক্রিয়াটি উচ্চমাত্রায় তাপোৎপাদী।

শিল্পক্ষেত্রে সোডিয়াম নাইট্রেটের সাথে পটাশিয়াম ক্লোরাইডের বিক্রিয়ায় পটাশিয়াম নাইট্রেট উৎপাদন করা হয়।

NaNO3 (aq) + KCl (aq) → NaCl (aq) + KNO3 (aq)

পটাশিয়াম নাইট্রেটের বিভিন্ন ধরনের ব্যবহার রয়েছে। মূলত নাইট্রেটের উৎস হিসেবে ব্যবহার করা হয়।
