ঘড়া

ঘড়া ভারত ও পাকিস্তানে তৈরি একপ্রকার কলসজাতীয় মৃৎপাত্র। এটি পানীয় জল সংরক্ষণ এবং শীতল রাখার জন্য ব্যবহৃত হয়।^[১]^[২]

ঘড়া শব্দটি পাহাড়ি, বাংলা^[৩] এবং ওড়িয়া তিনটি ভাষাতেই প্রায় একই অর্থে বিদ্যমান রয়েছে যা উদ্ভূত হয়েছে সংস্কৃত শব্দ ঘটা হতে।^[৪] এটিকে হিন্দিতে লেখা হয় घड़ा^[৫], নেপালি ভাষায় घड़ा^[৬], উর্দুতে گھڑا^[৭], এবং পাঞ্জাবিতে ਘਡ਼ਾ।^[৮]

ঘড়া শব্দটি প্রাপ্তবয়স্ক পুরুষ ঘড়িয়ালের শুঁড়ের উপর ফাঁপা বাল্বযুক্ত প্রোটিউবারেন্সের জন্যও ব্যবহৃত হয় কারণ এটি দেখতে ঘড়ার মতো আকৃতির। এই প্রোটিউবারেন্স তাদেরকে ৭৫ মিটার (২৪৬ ফুট) দূর থেকে শোনা যায় এমন একপ্রকার হিস্হিস্ শব্দ নির্গত করতে সাহায্য করে।^[৯]
