পরিব্যক্তি বা মিউটেশন (ইংরেজি:Mutation) হল কোষ জিনোমের ডিএনএ গঠনে পরিবর্তন। পরিব্যক্তি সংঘটিত হলে তা জিনের উপাদানে পরিবর্তন ঘটায়, অথবা জিনের কার্যক্রমে বাধাদান করে, অথবা কোন প্রতিক্রিয়াই ঘটে না। ড্রসোফিলা মাছিতে করা গবেষণার উপর ভিত্তি করে প্রস্তাব করা হয়েছে যে, মিউটেশনে যদি জিন কর্তৃক সৃষ্ট প্রোটিনে পরিবর্তন আসে, তবে তা ক্ষতিকারক হতে পারে, যেখানে উক্ত মিউটেশনের ৭০ শতাংশেই ক্ষতিকারক প্রভাব থাকে, এবং বাকি অংশ নিরপেক্ষ বা সামান্য উপকারী হতে পারে।[১]
