বাইগা হল মধ্যভারতের আদিবাসীদের এক জাতি, যাদের মূলত মধ্যপ্রদেশ ও ছত্তিশগড়ে এবং উত্তর প্রদেশ, ঝাড়খণ্ডের আশেপাশের বিভিন্ন স্থানে স্বল্প সংখ্যায় দেখতে পাওয়া যায়। বাইগা সম্প্রদায়ের মানুষজন মধ্যপ্রদেশের মান্ডলা জেলার বাইগা-চুক, ডিন্ডোরি এবং বালাঘাট জেলায় প্রচুর সংখ্যায় বসবাস করে। এদের মধ্যে বিঝওয়ার, নরোটিয়া, ভরতিয়া, নাহার, রাই ময়না এবং কাঠ ময়না নামক উপজাতিরাও আছেন। বাইগা নামের অর্থ যাদুকর চিকিৎসক।
জনসংখ্যা[সম্পাদনা]
উত্তর প্রদেশে বাইগা সম্প্রদায়ের মানুষজন তফসিলি উপজাতি হিসাবে স্বীকৃত। ২০১১ খ্রিস্টাব্দের আদমশুমারি অনুসারে এদের সংখ্যা ১৭,৩৮৭।[৬] যারা অবশ্য সোনভদ্র জেলায় বসবাস করেন তারা তফসিলি উপজাতি অন্তর্ভুক্ত।[৭]
জীবিকা[সম্পাদনা]
বাইগা'রা 'বেওয়ার' বা 'দাহিয়া' নামক স্থানান্তরিত চাষ জুম চাষ অবলম্বন করে।[৮]
বাইগা সম্প্রদায়ে লিভ-ইন সম্পর্ক সাধারণ। বিবাহ ও বিচ্ছেদে যৌতুক দিতে হয়।

বাইগাদের পূর্বপুরুষেরা অস্ট্রোএশিয়াটিক ভাষায় কথা বলতেন, পরে মান্ডলা জেলার বাইগা সম্প্রদায়ের মানুষজনের মাতৃভাষা "বাইগানি" হলেও গোণ্ড জাতির প্রভাবে বেশিরভাগ তারা হিন্দি ও কয়েকটি স্থানীয় ভাষা যেমন গোণ্ডি ও মারাঠি ব্যবহার করে।
রন্ধনপ্রণালী[সম্পাদনা]
কোদো বাজরা হল বাইগা সম্প্রদায়ের প্রধান খাবার। তাদের রান্নায় কোদো বাজরা, কুটকি ইত্যাদি মোটা শস্যদানা থাকে। জঙ্গল থেকে সংগ্রহ করা গাছের ফল ও শাকসবজি, মাছ ও শিকারের প্রাণী তাদের খাবারের তালিকায় থাকে।

This enumerated data might be erroneous, because there is a community called "Bagal" in that region. And the members of that community are identifying themselves as Baiga from decades.[৩][৪][৫]

In West Bengal, there is a group of people who are popularly known as Bagal, which means 'cattle herding'. ..this group have greater tribal attributes in them. But they do not belong to Scheduled Caste or tribe. As a result, they are trying to rename themselves as 'Baiga', because the Baigas are Scheduled tribe and are getting all Constitutional benefits.
