উচ্চারণের ফাইলটি শুনে মনে হচ্ছে "বারিমাঁ" জাতীয় কিছু হবে। "বারিমান" কোথা থেকে আসছে বুঝতে পারলাম না।

বাংলা ছাড়া অন্য সব উইকিতে অনুলিখন করার সময়ে "বার্গমান" এই ধরণের বানান অনুসরণ করা হয়েছে। যেমন আরবি (إنجمار برجمان), ফারসি (ارنست اینگمار برگمن), হিন্দি (इंगमार बर्गमान) , রুশ (Бергман, Эрнст Ингмар), ইত্যাদি। লাতিন লিপি ব্যবহারকারী ভাষায় না হয় মূল বানানটি ব্যবহার করছে বলে যুক্তি তোলা যেতে পারে, কিন্তু রুশ ভাষার উইকিপিডিয়াতেও বার্গমান বানান ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে। কেউ কোনো উইকিতে ফোনেটিক বানান লিখেছে বলে দেখতে পাচ্ছি না। কাজেই এখানে সেটা ব্যবহারের কী যুক্তি? বাংলা ভাষায় চলচ্চিত্র বিষয়ক প্রকাশনা গুলোতেও বার্গমান বা বার্গম্যান বানান ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে। --রাগিব ^{(আলাপ | অবদান)} ২০:০৭, ২৫ এপ্রিল ২০০৮ (ইউটিসি)

That is true for most languages, but at least two non-Latin-script languages make an effort to represent the Swedish pronunciation: in Korean it's 잉마르 베리만 (Ingmareu Beriman) and in Japanese it's イングマール・ベルイマン (Ingumaaru Beruiman). Well, there's no such thing as a non-Koreanized version when speaking Korean, or a non-Japanese version when speaking Japanese. Similarly, any foreign name written in English automatically becomes Anglicized, regardless of the spelling. Even if an English-speaker used the Swedish pronunciation of Bergmann, he or she wouldn't say [bɛrjman]. Instead, they'd say something more like [bɛrimɑn], simply due to the phonology of English. That is true of any language, due to its phonological constraints. Consider "বার্গম্যান" in Bengali. The first vowel in the Bengali pronunciation would be [a], even though the vowel of the so-called international version of the name is a schwa. Since Bengali has no schwa (either in writing or in speech), we have to pronounce an [a] instead. That's the "Bengalification" of it. So whatever spelling/pronunciation we choose is still going to be Bengalified. The question is really which version are we trying to approximate?

The reason why I put the Korean and Japanese examples in there is to show that both versions are as close as they can be (in those languages) to the Swedish pronunciation of Bergmann, not the English pronunciation. Both Korean and Japanese in fact have a [g] sound, and they would use it if they thought that was part of the "correct" pronunciation of the name. If Koreans were trying to pronounce the [g], they could say 버그만 Beogeuman (the vowel choices and loss of [r] are standard for representing English in Korean orthography), but instead they say 베리만 Beriman, attempting to approximate the Swedish [bɛrjman]. হ্যা, বাংলাদেশের সকল প্রকাশনায় বার্গম্যান লিখা হচ্ছে। কিন্তু একটা বিষয় মনে রাখা প্রয়োজন যে, বারিমান কখনও সুইডেন ত্যাগ করেননি। একজন পুরোদস্তুর সুয়েডীয়র নামের উচ্চারণ সুয়েডীয়ই হওয়া উচিত। অনেক সময় ইংরেজি উচ্চারণ প্রাধান্য পায়, যদি তিনি ইংরেজিভাষী দেশে বসবাস করে সে নামেই পরিচিত হতে থাকেন। যেমন স্টিভেন সোডারবার্গের নাম করা যায়। কিন্তু বারিমানকে বোধহয় চলচ্চিত্র জগতে আসল উচ্চারণেই ডাকা হয়। তারপরও সন্দেহ আছে। আসলে চলচ্চিত্র জগতে তিনি কি নামে পরিচিত সেটাই মুখ্য। -- মুহাম্মদ ০২:০৮, ২৬ এপ্রিল ২০০৮ (ইউটিসি)

এই ওয়েব পৃষ্ঠায় বার্গম্যান বলা হচ্ছে। তারপরও কথা থাকে। সুয়েডীয় উচ্চারণ যে বারিমান এতে সন্দেহ নেই। আর সুইডেনই যে তার চলচ্চিত্র জীবনের সব তাতেও সন্দেহ নাই। বোঝা যাচ্ছে আন্তর্জাতিক উচ্চারণ বার্গম্যান এবং সুয়েডীয় উচ্চারণ বারিমান। আমরা কোনটা ব্যভহার করবো সেটাই এখন ভাবার বিষয়। -- মুহাম্মদ ০৬:৪০, ২৬ এপ্রিল ২০০৮ (ইউটিসি)

মুহাম্মদ ভাই, আপনার পাঠানো সাইটে যা-যা উচ্চারণ দেওয়া হয়েছে, সেগুলো "আন্তর্জাতিক উচ্চারণ" বলে তা স্পষ্ট নয়। উচ্চারণগুলো মাত্র ইংরেজি উচ্চারণ। I think it's very common to assume that the English pronunciation is the international pronunciation--sometimes it is, of course--but we should remember that English is still a language just like any other language, with its own idiosyncrasies and special pronunciation rules, which mean that there are some names that can't be pronounced properly in English but they can still be rendered properly in other languages.
