[সম্পাদনা]Hi, Is there any Wiki related research project running in India which has a NDA requirement?
Two days ago one of the Wikipedian from Bangladesh received a call from an Indian number, asking him whether he is interested to Join a Zoom call for a research project on which call 3 people from Wikimedia Foundation will be present and they offer to give him Rs. 2500 if he attends. But to attend he needs to sign an NDA first. The Wikipedian did not opt-in or fill any form for any kind of research. He just got this call randomly. He has contacted with me asking if this is a valid call or scam.
Secondly a user got an email from aeon (arpita@aeonresearch.in). They are saying, they are recruiter from aeon, sending mail on behalf of Anagram research and the Wikimedia Foundation.
Can we trust the email? আফতাবুজ্জামান (আলাপ) ১২:২৬, ১৮ জুন ২০২১ (ইউটিসি)
- Hi আফতাবুজ্জামান,
- We are currently running a design research project related to translation that involves editors in India and Bangladesh. However, there is no NDA for the project. In fact, participants are free to discuss their experience in the research, and actually we think it would be great if they continue to talk about topics from the research with other editors. Although there's no NDA, there is a general consent form, so maybe it's possible that someone made reference to 'NDA' but what was actually meant was the 'consent form'. With all research projects, we use participant consent forms - the purpose of these is to make it very clear what will happen during the research session. It's intended to increase transparency and ensure participants know what they're agreeing to participate in. Moreover, it expresses the Wikimedia Foundation's commitment ot protection of participants' identity and data.
- I can confirm that the Wikimedia Foundation is partnering with Aeon Research for certain aspects of the project. However they should only be contacting individuals who completed this sign up form. Sometimes due to time delays, it's possible for people to forget they've completed the form, and then be contacted and surprised (this has happened in the past). But, again, the sign up form asks people to only submit their responses if they're ok being contacted by a research partner. If you know anyone who's being contacted and who didn't submit the form, if they'd like to provide me their username, I can investigate on a case-by-case basis. They're also simply welcome to decline to participate if contacted by Aeon. While we want to collect the feedback from Bengali editors and hope that people will participate, we of course only want editors to participate if they feel comfortable doing so. Any individual follow-up questions from editors can be directed to eli@wikimedia.org.
- Thanks for reaching out, I hope this has helped address your questions/concerns.
- Kind regards, EAsikingarmager (WMF) (আলাপ) ১৬:৫১, ২১ জুন ২০২১ (ইউটিসি)
