অতিপ্রাকৃত বলতে এমন ঘটনা বা সত্তাকে বোঝায় যা প্রকৃতির নিয়মের বাইরে।[১] এটিকে লোককাহিনী এবং ধর্মীয় প্রেক্ষাপটে দেখানো হয়েছে,[২] কিন্তু ধর্মনিরপেক্ষ প্রেক্ষাপটে ব্যাখ্যা হিসাবেও বৈশিষ্ট্যযুক্ত হতে পারে, যেমনটি কুসংস্কার বা অস্বাভাবিক বিশ্বাসের ক্ষেত্রে।[৩] অতিপ্রাকৃত হলো ধর্মের নিকট উপার্থকতীয়। ধর্ম হলো প্রমিত অতিপ্রাকৃত বিশ্বদর্শন।
এটি অ-ভৌত সত্ত্বাকে আরোপিত করা হয়েছে, যেমন দেবদূত, দানব, দেবতা ও আত্মা। এটিতে পূর্বাহ্নে লব্ধ জ্ঞান, জাদু, মনোগতিসঞ্চার, লঘিমা এবং অতীন্দ্রিয় উপলব্ধি সহ এই ধরনের প্রাণীদের দ্বারা মূর্ত বা প্রদান করা দাবি করা ক্ষমতাও অন্তর্ভুক্ত রয়েছে। শব্দটি মধ্যযুগে আবির্ভূত হয়েছিল,[৪] এবং প্রাচীন বিশ্বে এর অস্তিত্ব ছিল না।[৫]
