ভারতীয় উপমহাদেশের ইতিহাস পঠনে জেমস টডের মূল্যায়নকে যথেষ্ট গুরুত্ব দেয়া হয়ে থাকে যদিও কারো কারো দৃষ্টিতে তিনি এই অঞ্চলের অধিবাসীদের মূল্যায়নের সময় সাম্প্রদায়িক মানসিকতার পরিচয় দিয়েছেন।
