হ্যারিয়ার (কুকুর)

একটি তিনটি রংস্তরের হ্যারিয়ার

হ্যারিয়ার হচ্ছে এক প্রজাতির শিকারী কুকুর যেটি সাধারণতঃ খরগোশ শিকারের ক্ষেত্রে শিকারকে ধাওয়া করার জন্য ব্যবহার করা হয়। মাঝারী আকৃতির এই কুকুরটির মূল আবাস যুক্তরাজ্য।

ইতিহাস

কুকুরের এই জাতটি ১৮৮৫ সালে আমেরিকান কেনল ক্লাব কর্তৃক স্বীকৃতি দেয়া হয় এবং এটি শিকারী কুকুর দলে শ্রেণীবদ্ধ করা হয়।

উইলিয়াম সামারভিলের ১৭৩৫ সালের একটি রচনায় হ্যারিয়ারের বিবরণ পাওয়া যায় এভাবেঃ

See there with count'nance blithe,
And with a courtly grin, the fawning hound
Salutes thee cow'ring, his wide op'ning nose
Upward he curls, and his large sloe-black eyes
Melt in soft blandishments and humble joy;
His glossy skin, or yellow-pied, or blue,
In lights or shades by Nature's pencil drawn,
Reflects the various tints; his ears and legs,
Fleckt here and there, in gay enamel'd pride,
Rival the speckled pard; his rush-grown tail
