মামজবেরির উইলিয়াম
মামজবেরির উইলিয়াম (ইংরেজি: William of Malmesbury; লাতিন: Willelmus Malmesbiriensis; আনু. 1095 – আনু. 1143) ছিলেন দ্বাদশ শতাব্দীর প্রধান ইংরেজ ইতিহাসবিদ। বিডের পরে সর্বাপেক্ষা প্রতিভাবান ইংরেজ ইতিহাসবিদদের মধ্যে তিনি ছিলেন অন্যতম। আধুনিক ইতিহাসবিদ সি. ওয়ারেন হলিস্টার বলেন, তিনি ছিলেন "এক প্রভূত সহজাত গুণসম্পন্ন ঐতিহাসিক গবেষক ও আগ্রাসী পাঠক। ধ্রুপদি, প্যাট্রিস্টিক ও আদি মধ্যযুগীয় সাহিত্যে তাঁর বিশেষ জ্ঞান ছিল, সেই সঙ্গে নিজের সমসাময়িক লেখকদের লেখার সঙ্গে তিনি পরিচিত ছিলেন। নিঃসন্দেহে উইলিয়াম ছিলেন দ্বাদশ শতাব্দীর পশ্চিম ইউরোপের সর্বাপেক্ষা জ্ঞানী ব্যক্তি।"[১]
উইলিয়ামের জন্ম ১০৯৫ বা ১০৯৬ খ্রিস্টাব্দে[২] উইল্টশায়ারে। তাঁর বাবা ছিলেন নর্ম্যান ও মা ছিলেন ইংরেজ।[৩] তিনি তাঁর সমগ্র জীবন ইংল্যান্ডেই অতিবাহিত করেন। প্রাপ্তবয়স্ক জীবনে তিনি ছিলেন ইংল্যান্ডের উইল্টশায়ারের মামজবেরি অ্যাবির এক সন্ন্যাসী।[৪]
