Masud Rana is a Bangladeshi crime action film released in 1974.[১] Masud Rana is a fictional character created by Qazi Anwar Hussain and published under the banner of Sheba Prokashoni. Since 1966, it has published over four hundred books on this character. Actor Masud Parvez alias Sohel Rana made the film based on the story of Bismoron (lit. Amnesia) novel of Masud Rana series,[২][৩] which in turn is based on Strictly for Cash.. by James Hadley Chase. This is the debut film of Sohel Rana.[৪]

Qazi Anwar Hussain won the Bachsas Award for Best Screenplay and Dialogue in 1974 for this film. The film stars Sohail Rana in the role of Masud Rana, Olivia and Kabori, Golam Mostafa, Khalil, Fateh Lohani and Razzak as a guest actor.

Plot[সম্পাদনা]

Masud Rana, manager of Bangladesh International Trading Corporation visits Sri Lanka for vacation. After spending some days in Colombo, he goes to Kandy via train. In train he make friendship with hotel owner Thiru and he gets in the hotel of Pillai in Kandy. After arriving in hotel he see that a customer (Birbardhan) was harassed Pillai's wife Lina. In result, Masud Rana fights with him and gets him out of the restaurant. He is member of Raghunath's gang. After the event Bighnoraj comes to rescue him from the gang. Raghunath bets against Bighnoraj 10 lac Taka in wrestling. Masud Rana is agreed to wrestle for Bighnoraj with Hambantota, wrestler of Raghunath Sardar. But Raghunath warns Masud not to win in the wrestling otherwise he will be killed. But Masud Rana wins in the wrestling. Rita saw the match in stadium where she starts to like him. After knowing that Masud is going to be killed by gang members she and her husband Kumar take him with them and try to escape in their casino house. Their car fall in accident. Kumar dies and Masud loses his memory. Kumar transferred all his properties to his daughter Sabita before his death. In the greed of money she tells to Masud that he is Kumar, her husband. Rita plans to get Kumar's properties by using Masud. Then the story goes on.

In 1973, the plan to making a film based on Masud Rana novel was made by Sohel Rana.[৭] For that purpose, an advertisement was published in newspaper for main character of the film. A character election committee was made. Members of the committee were filmmaker S.M Shafi, actress Sumita Devi, producer Sohel Rana and film journalist Ahmed Zaman Chowdhury. After some days Ahmed Zaman Chowdhury of the committee suggested that Sohel Rana should be Masud Rana of the film. In that time he acted as actor, producer and director of the film.[৮]

Filming[সম্পাদনা]

The story set in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Most of the scenes of the film are shot in Cox’s Bazar, especially for Sri Lankan parts. Remaining scenes of the film are shot in TSC, DU and Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, Dhaka.
