এই নিবন্ধ থেকে {{Short description}} সরান। এটি বাংলা উইকিপিডিয়ায় কাজ করবে না। Murad Takla (বাংলা: মুরাদ টাকলা) is a term used in Bangladeshi humour since the 2010s to refer to those who write Bengali words using the Latin script in a bizarre or unorthodox fashion, unintentionally producing a distorted meaning.

History

In 2012, a Facebook user named Jayanta Kumer posted a comment which read, "Murad takla jukti dia kata bal, faltu pic dicos kan! Lakapora koira kata bal" (বাংলা: ‘‘মুরোদ থাকলে যুক্তি দিয়া কথা বল, ফালতু পিক দিছস কেন? লেখাপড়া কইরা কথা বল’’, অনুবাদ '"If you have courage, explain why you used an awful picture, learn before you speak"'). The screenshot of the comment went viral on Facebook because of its unintentional humour: the literal meaning of the term "Murad Takla" ("Murod thakle" in Bengali) changed over time from "if you have courage" to "a bald person named Murad" (Murad Takla). The phrase became popular and synonymous with people who write distorted Bengali in Latin script.

After the incident, a Facebook page named "Murad Takla" was created where screenshots of posts written in the "Takla language" were published and followers could attempt to decipher the words that users had attempted to write. Gradually, the efforts of this page created awareness among Bangladeshi netizens on the need for writing in proper Bengali.

The term has also been used to refer to Murad Hasan, a Bangladeshi politician, on the internet and other media platforms especially after a controversy over the leak of an obscene phone call record. The discussion about Murad Hasan led to some confusion about the term.

Dictionary

In 2020, the Murad Takla Dictionary was published by Simu Nasser and Pian Mughdha Nabi for the purpose of understanding the meaning of sentences written in the "Takla language".
