বিজ্ঞান অথবা প্রকৃতির নিয়মের দ্বারা যার ব্যাখ্যা সম্ভব না তাই অতিপ্রাকৃত (মধ্যযুগীয় ল্যাটিনঃ supernātūrālis: supra অর্থাৎ 'অতি' + naturalis অর্থাৎ 'প্রাকৃত', প্রথম ব্যবহারঃ ১৫২০-১৫৩০ খ্রিষ্টাব্দ)[১][২]। ভৌতিক বৈশিষ্ট্যপূর্ণ বা যেকোন অতিপ্রাকৃত সত্ত্বা, ঈশ্বর অথবা প্রকৃতি বহির্ভুত সকল জিনিসই অতিপ্রাকৃত-এর অন্তর্ভুক্ত।[৩]

যেহেতু অতিপ্রাকৃত এবং প্রকৃতির স্বাভাবিক অবস্থা পরষ্পরবিরোধী তাই দর্শন ও ধর্মীয় তত্ত্বের মাধ্যমে এর ব্যাখ্যা করা কঠিন। আরও একটি জটিল বিষয় হলো স্বাভাবিক এবং স্বাভাবিকতার সীমা নিয়ে মতভেদ রয়েছে। অতিপ্রাকৃত প্রকৃতপক্ষে ধর্মীয় আধ্যাত্মিকতা বা অপার্থিবতার সাথে ঘনিষ্টভাবে সম্পর্কিত।
অতিপ্রাকৃতিক বিষয়ের সমর্থনকারীদের মতে অতীত, বর্তমান ও ভবিষ্যতের জটিলতা বা বিশ্বের রহস্য শুধুমাত্র প্রকৃতিবাদী মাধ্যমে ব্যাখ্যা করা সম্ভব নয় এবং তাদের মতে অতিপ্রাকৃত সত্ত্বা বা সত্ত্বাসমুহরাই এর জন্য দায়ী।
দর্শন[সম্পাদনা]
অতিপ্রাকৃত হচ্ছে প্রথাগত দর্শনের নয়াপ্লাতোবাদ[৪] এবং মধ্যযুগীয় দার্শনিক মতবাদের[৫] একটি উপাদান। অপরপক্ষে, অধ্যাত্মিক স্বাভাবিকতা যেকোন অতিপ্রাকৃত সত্ত্বা, জিনিস বা ক্ষমতার উপস্থিতির সম্পূর্ণ বিরোধিতা করে।
