জাহাজ নির্মাণ হল জাহাজ অথবা অন্যান্য ভাসমান নৌযান এর নির্মাণ।
এটি সাধারণত শিপ-ইয়ার্ড নামক একটি বিশেষ স্থাপনায় করা হয়ে থাকে। জাহাজ নির্মাতা পেশাটি লিপিবদ্ধ ইতিহাস-এরও আগে থেকে চলে আসছে। বানিজ্যিক ও সামরিক উভয় ক্ষেত্রেই জাহাজ-নির্মাণ ও জাহাজ-মেরামতকে নৌ প্রকৌশল বলে আখ্যায়িত করা হয়।
তেমনই রয়েছে নৌকা-নির্মান শিল্প যা জাহাজ-নির্মাণ থেকে ভিন্ন।
জাহাজ ভেঙ্গে ফেলাকে জাহাজ ভাঙ্গা শিল্প হিসেবে আখ্যায়িত করা হয়।

প্রত্নতাত্ত্বিক নিদর্শন থেকে জানা যায় যে, মানুষ প্রথম এশিয়া-এর মূল ভূখণ্ড থেকে সমুদ্রপথে বোর্নিও পৌছায় ১২,০০০ বছর আগে বরফযুগ চলাকালিন সময়ে যখন সমুদ্রের উচ্চতা কম ছিল এবং দ্বীপসমুহের মধয়বর্তি দুরত্ব কম ছিল। (দেখুন বোর্নিও এর ইতিহাস এবং পাপুয়া নিউগিনি)। এছাড়াও নিউ গিনি ও অস্ট্রেলিয়ার আদিবাসীরা লম্বোক স্ট্রেট থেকে সাহুল-এ পাড়ি জমায় প্রায় ৫০,০০০ বছরেরও আগে।

জাহাজ মেরামত শিল্প
সব জাহাজই একটা সময় মেরামতের প্রয়োজন হয়। এই কাজের একটি অংশ ক্লাসিফিকেশন সোসাইটির তত্ত্বাবধানে পরিচালিত হতে হবে। অনেক মেরামত জাহাজের নাবিকদল কর্তৃক সমুদ্র বা বন্দরে সম্পন্ন হয়। তবে বেশিরভাগ মেরামতের কাজ করতে হয় জাহাজ মেরামত কেন্দ্রে যখন জাহাজের বানিজ্যিক চলাচল বন্ধ থাকে। তবে মেরামতের পূর্বে তরল পদার্থবাহী জাহাজকে অবশ্যই ট্যাংক পরিষ্কার এবং এর বর্জ্য(নোংরা পরিষ্কারের পানি এবং হাইড্রোকার্বন উচ্ছিষ্ট) নিষ্কাসনের জন্য ডিব্যালাস্টিং স্টেশনে যেতে হবে।
