সৃষ্টিপুরাণ বা মহাজাগতিক পুরাণ হলো এক ধরনের সৃষ্টিতত্ত্ব, কীভাবে বিশ্ব শুরু হয়েছিল এবং কীভাবে লোকেরা প্রথম সেখানে বসবাস করতে এসেছিল তার প্রতীকী বর্ণনা। যদিও জনপ্রিয় ব্যবহারে পুরাণ শব্দটি প্রায়শই মিথ্যা বা কাল্পনিক কাহিনীকে বোঝায়, সংস্কৃতির সদস্যরা প্রায়শই তাদের সৃষ্টি পুরাণে বিভিন্ন মাত্রার সত্যকে আরোপ করে। যে সম্প্রদায়ে এটি কথিত, সেখানে সৃষ্টি পুরাণকে সাধারণত গভীর সত্য - রূপকীয়, প্রতীকী, ঐতিহাসিক বা আক্ষরিক অর্থে বোঝানো হয়।। এগুলি সাধারণত, যদিও সর্বদা নয়, নিসর্গীয় পৌরাণিক কাহিনী হিসেবে বিবেচিত হয় – অর্থাৎ, তারা বিশৃঙ্খল অবস্থা বা নিরাকার অবস্থা থেকে মহাজাগতিকতার ক্রমকে বর্ণনা করে।

সৃষ্টিপুরাণ বিভিন্ন বৈশিষ্ট্য ভাগ করে নেয়। এগুলিকে পবিত্র হিসাবে বিবেচিত এবং প্রায় সব পরিচিত ধর্মীয় ঐতিহ্যে পাওয়া যায়। এগুলি হলো প্লট ও চরিত্রের কাহিনী যেগুলো হয় দেবতা, মানুষের মতো মূর্তি বা প্রাণী, যারা প্রায়শই কথা বলে ও সহজেই রূপান্তরিত হয়। এগুলি প্রায়ই আবছা ও অনির্দিষ্ট অতীতে সেট করা হয় যেটিকে ধর্মের ইতিহাসবিদ মির্শিয়া এলিয়েড ইন ইল্লো টেম্পোরে (সেই সময়ে) হিসেবে অভিহিত করেছেন৷ এগুলি সমাজের কাছে গভীরভাবে অর্থপূর্ণ প্রশ্নগুলিকে সম্বোধন করে যা তাদের ভাগ করে, তাদের কেন্দ্রীয় বিশ্বদর্শন ও সর্বজনীন প্রেক্ষাপটে সংস্কৃতি এবং ব্যক্তির স্ব-পরিচয়ের কাঠামো প্রকাশ করে।
