“সিম্পল সাইমন” হলো ইংরেজি ভাষার একটি জনপ্রিয় শিশুতোষ ছড়া। এর রাউড লোকসঙ্গীত সূচক সংখ্যা ১৯৭৭৭।
ছড়ার কথা[সম্পাদনা]
ছড়াটির কথাগুলো নিম্নরূপ:
- Simple Simon met a pieman,
- Going to the fair;
- Says Simple Simon to the pieman,
- Let me taste your ware.
- Says the pieman to Simple Simon,
- Show me first your penny;
- Says Simple Simon to the pieman,
- Indeed I have not any.
- Simple Simon went a-fishing,
- For to catch a whale;
- All the water he had got,
- Was in his mother's pail.
- Simple Simon went to look
- If plums grew on a thistle;
- He pricked his fingers very much,
- Which made poor Simon whistle.[১]
- He went for water in a sieve
- But soon it all fell through
- And now poor Simple Simon

বর্তমানে ব্যবহৃত ছড়ার লাইনগুলো ১৭৬৪ সালে প্রথম প্রকাশিত একটি দীর্ঘ চ্যাপবুকে পাওয়া যায়।[১] সিম্পল সাইমন নামের চরিত্রটি এর আরও আগে থেকে প্রচলিত ছিল। সম্ভবত ১৬৮৫ সালে এলিজাবেথ যুগের চ্যাপবুক বা “সিম্পল সাইমন’স মিসফর্চুনস অ্যান্ড হিজ ওয়াইফ মার্গারি’স ক্রুয়েল্টি” নামের লোকগীতি থেকে চরিত্রটি জনপ্রিয়তা লাভ করে থাকতে পারে।[১] এছাড়াও ১৮শ শতাব্দীতে সেন্ট গাইলস এলাকায় সাইমন এডি নামের এক ভিক্ষুক ছিল। তার নাম থেকেও সাইমন চরিত্রের উদ্ভব হয়ে থাকতে পারে।[৩]
