ভারতীয় লাল বা ইন্ডিয়ান লাল হলো একটি রঙ পিগমেন্ট যা গৈরিক মাটি রঙেরই একটি রকমফের। রঙটি তৈরি হয় ফেরিক অক্সাইড হতে যা সাধারণত ভারতে উৎপন্ন হয়ে থাকে।[২] Other shades of iron oxides include Venetian Red, English Red, and Kobe, all shown below.
Chestnut is a color similar to but separate and distinct from Indian red.

ভেনিসীয় লাল পিগমেন্টটি হলো স্কারলেটের কিছুটা কালচে আভা যা ফেরিক অক্সাইড (Fe2O3) থেকে এসেছে।
ইংরেজিতে রঙের নাম হিসেবে ভেনিসীয় লাল (ভেনেশিয়ান রেড) শব্দটির রেকর্ডকৃত প্রথম ব্যবহার হয় ১৭৫৩ খ্রিস্টাব্দে।[৩]

Deep Indian red is the color originally called Indian red from its formulation in 1903 until 1999, but now called chestnut, in Crayola crayons. This color was also produced in a special limited edition in which it was called Vermont maple syrup.
At the request of educators worried that children (mistakenly; see Etymology) believed the name represented the skin color of Native Americans, Crayola changed the name of their crayon color Indian Red to Chestnut in 1999.[৪]

ইংরেজিতে রঙের নাম হিসেবে ইংলিশ রেড (ইংরেজি লাল) শব্দটির রেকর্ডকৃত প্রথম ব্যবহার হয় ১৭০০ এর দশকে (সঠিক সময় অনিশ্চিত)।[৬] ডেনিস ডিডেরোটের এনসাইক্লোপিডিয়ায় এটি ইংরেজি লাল হিসেবে নথিভুক্ত হয়েছে।[৭]
