ধারণা অ্যালবাম বলতে এমন ধরণের অ্যালবামের প্রতিনিধিত্ব করে যেটির গান বা ট্র্যাকসমূহ একটি ব্যাপক উদ্দেশ্য বা সম্মিলিতভাবে অর্থের চাইতে বরঙ স্বতন্ত্রভাবে ধারণ করে।[৩][৪] এটি সাধারণত কোনো একক কেন্দ্রীয় আখ্যান বা থিমের মাধ্যমে সম্পাদিত হয়ে থাকে, যা যন্ত্রগত, গঠনগত অথবা গীতধর্মী হতে পারে।[৫] কখনও কখনও এই পদটি দ্বারা "অভিন্ন শ্রেষ্ঠত্বের" পরিবর্তে একটি সুনির্দিষ্ট সাঙ্গীতিক বা গীতধর্মী মূল উপাদানের সঙ্গে একটি এলপি হিসেবে বিবেচিত অ্যালবামের উল্লেখ করা হয়।[৬] "ধারণা অ্যালবাম"-এর জন্য একটি সঠিক নির্ণায়কের তারতম্য রয়েছে, আপাতদৃষ্টিতে এ বিষয়ে ঐক্যমত্য অপ্রতিষ্ঠিত।[২][৪]
