নরবলি

আযটেক সভ্যতায় নরবলির কাল্পনিক চিত্র

নরবলি হলো দেবতাকে সন্তুষ্ট করার উদ্দেশ্যে বা ঐশ্বরিক অনুগ্রহ প্রাপ্তির আশায় কিংবা ক্রুদ্ধ দেবতাকে শান্ত করার লক্ষ্যে মানুষ হত্যা। এটি একটি প্রাচীন ধর্মীয় সংস্কার যা বিভিন্ন সভ্যতায় অঙ্গীভূত ছিল কিন্তু আধুনিক সভ্যতায় অবসিত হয়েছে। পৃথিবীর প্রধান ধর্মসমূহে নরহত্যা তথা নরবলির বিধান নেই, বরং নরহত্যা নিষিদ্ধ। নরহত্যার সঙ্গে নরবলি'র পার্থক্য হলো নরবলি সামাজিকভাবে অনুমোদিত মানুষ হত্যা যার উদ্দেশ্য দেবতাদের সন্তুষ্টি অর্জ্জন। পাঁচ হাজার বছর আগে আদি ইয়োরোপের কৃষিভিত্তিক সমাজে নরবলির ব্যাপক প্রচলন ছিল।অপরাধের কারণে বিচারাদেশ অনুযায়ী হত্যা বা দেবতার সন্তুষ্টি অর্জ্জনের জন্য আত্মহত্যা নরবলি হিসাবে গণ্য নয়।

নরবলি চল ছিল এমন কয়েকটি সভ্যতা হলো নিম্নরূপ: খ্রিষ্টপূর্ব ৩৫০০-১১০০ সাল ব্যা্পী ক্যানানাইটিস, খ্রিষ্টপূর্ব ৮০০-১০০ সাল ব্যাপী এত্রুস্ক্যানস্‌, খ্রিষ্টপূর্ব ৮০০-১ সাল ব্যাপী কেল্টস্‌ এবং ৫০০ থেকে ১৫০০ খ্রিস্টাব্দ অবধি বিস্তৃত আযটেক সভ্যতা। কখনো কখনো গণ নরবলিও সংঘটিত হতো, যেমন ফেরাউনদের রাজত্ব কালে। নরবলিতে নির্গত রক্তকে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ মনে করা হতো; নরবলির রক্ত দিয়ে উপাসনা স্থান পরিষ্কার করণের রীতিও প্রচলিত ছিল।। মায়া সভ্যতায় শিরশ্ছেদের সঙ্গে সঙ্গে উৎসর্গীকৃত ব্যক্তির হৃৎপিণ্ড বের করে ফেলার রীতি ছিল।
