পশতুনিস্তান (পশতু: پښتونستان; পাখতুনিস্তান নামেও পরিচিত,^[৩] বা পাঠানিস্তান,^[৪]^[৫] অর্থ পশতুদের দেশ, হচ্ছে পশতু জনগোষ্ঠী অধ্যুষিত একটি ভৌগোলিক ঐতিহাসিক অঞ্চল যা আজকের দিনের আফগানিস্তান এবং পাকিস্তানের কিছু অঞ্চল নিয়ে গঠিত যেখানে পশতু সংস্কৃতি, ভাষা এবং জাতীয়তা প্রবল।^[৬]^[৭]^[৮] এই অঞ্চলের জন্য বিকল্প নামও প্রচলিত আছে যেমন "পাখতুনখোয়া" (پښتونخوا), "রোহ" (روه), এবং "আফগানিস্তান" (افغانستان), যা ৩য় শতকের পর থেকেই প্রচলিত।^[৩]^[৯]^[১০] পশতুনিস্তানের পূর্বে পাঞ্জাব, পশ্চিম ও উত্তরে তুর্কিভাষী অঞ্চল, উত্তরপূর্বে কাশ্মির এবং দক্ষিণে বেলুচিস্তান।

ইতিহাস

২য় খ্রিস্টপূর্বাব্দ থেকে এই অঞ্চলে পশতু জনগোষ্ঠী বসবাস করছে, যা বিভিন্ন পর্যায়ে প্রাচীন ইরানি জনগোষ্ঠী, মিডিয়ান, আকেমেনিড, গ্রীক, মৌর্যবংশ, কুশান, হেপথালাইট, সাসানীয়, আরব মুসলমান, তুর্কি, মুঘল এবং অন্য অনেকের দ্বারা শাসিত হয়েছে। সাম্প্রতিককালে, পশ্চিমা বিশ্বও এই অঞ্চলের ভাগ্য নির্ধারণে ভূমিকা রাখছে।^[১১]^[১২]^[১৩]

৭ম শতকে আরব মুসলমানরা এই অঞ্চলে আগমনের পরে পশতুদের মধ্যে ইসলামের বিকাশ ঘটে। কিছু আরব ব্যক্তি সুলাইমান পর্বতে বসবাস শুরু করে এবং ধীরে ধীরে পশতু জাতির সঙ্গে একীভূত হয়ে যায়।
