This template is intended to request Revision deletion of portions of any page due to apparent copyright violations tainting the page history, under section RD1 of the criteria for redaction. Please use this template only for requesting the redaction of copyrighted material from a page's history where the violations have been cleared from the current revision.

Requests for revision deletion under any other criteria should be made to an administrator in Category:Wikipedia administrators willing to handle RevisionDelete requests.

You must specify at least one revision (using the |start= parameter alone), or first range of revisions to redact.

A user script is available to quickly select ranges of revision IDs to be used in the template at User:Enterprisey/cv-revdel.

The template will accept up to nine sequences of diffs in the manner above.

Parameters |end=, |end2=, |end3=, |end4= are always optional, even when |start2=, |start3= and |start4= are specified.

Providing the URLs wherever possible will allow a swift processing of the request. If that is not directly possible (e.g. because providing it would in itself be a WP:LINKVIO), please explain on the talk page how to verify the validity of the request.

The numbered URLs are NOT tied to the numbered start & end revisions. Multiple URLs may be dealt with in the deletion of a single range. Conversely a violation of a single URL may have been reinserted a number of times making it necessary to delete multiple ranges.

Parameter |CopyPatrol= is intended for use by users experienced in the CopyPatrol interface.This is very helpful when the site(s) the article was in infringement of is currently inaccessible.

Targeting the correct revision "oldids"

1. In the usage instructions above, the "number of the ... revision" is the number next to "oldid=" at the end of the URL shown in your browser's address bar, when at a revision of a page. For example, the oldid from this URL of a revision of przevalski's nuthatch is highlighted:

2. Probably because of a false equivalence with a diff view that people are so used to—where one invokes the revision before a span of revisions to see the changes in between—it is common for people to provide one revision too early (and sometimes one revision too far), when choosing the span of revisions requested to be redacted.
3. The "first (oldest)" revision ID is the oldid number from the URL where the copyright violation was added (and not the revision before it).
4. The "last (newest)" revision ID is the oldid number from the URL where the copyright violation last existed (and not the revision that deleted it.) That is, the revert does not have the copyright violation in its text, so it's the edit prior to the revert.
