Acurious description of a building by him above theRock has been preserved by Adamnan, Abbot of St.Columba, as related to him by a French pilgrim,Bishop Arculphus. He states that the Mosque ofthe Saracens was a square building, put together ofplanks and beams yet large enough to contain 3000worshippers. The building by Omar of a Mosque in Jérusalemis, however, not recorded by early Arabie historians,though Mr. Lestrange has discovered an allusion to (346)
