পারসিক প্রদেশ ইয়েহুদ মেদিনেট থেকে প্রাপ্ত খ্রিস্টপূর্ব ৪র্থ শতকের একটি পারস্য রৌপ্য মুদ্রা যা সম্ভবত একটি ডানাওয়ালা চাকার উপর সিংহাসনে অধিষ্ঠিত ইয়াহওয়েহের প্রতিনিধিত্ব করে

ইয়াহওয়েহ্ হল প্রাচীন ইস্রায়েল এবং যিহূদার জাতীয় ঈশ্বর। তাঁর উপাসনার উৎস অন্তত লৌহ যুগের প্রথম দিক হতে সম্ভবত ব্রোঞ্জ যুগের শেষভাগ পর্যন্ত। প্রাচীনতম বাইবেলীয় সাহিত্যে ইয়াহওয়েহ্ এক ঝড় এবং যুদ্ধের দেবতা যে ইসরায়েলের শত্রুদের বিরুদ্ধে স্বর্গীয় বাহিনীর নেতৃত্বদানকারী; সেই সময়ে ইস্রায়েলীয়রা এল, আশেরাহ এবং বাআল সহ বিভিন্ন কেনানীয় দেব-দেবীর পাশাপাশি তার পূজা করত; পরবর্তী শতাব্দীতে এল আর ইয়াহওয়েহ্ একত্র হয়ে যায় এবং এল-যুক্ত ঐশ্বরিক বিশেষণ এল শাদ্দাই শুধুই ইয়াহওয়েহের জন্য প্রযোজ্য করা হয় এবং অন্যান্য ঈশ্বর যেমন বাল এবং আশেরারা ইয়াহওয়েহবাদের মাঝে শেষ হয়ে যায়।

ব্যাবিলনীয় বন্দিদশার শেষের দিকে বিদেশী দেবতাদের অস্তিত্বকে অস্বীকার করা হয়েছিল এবং ইয়াহওয়েহকে বিশ্বজগতের স্রষ্টা এবং সমগ্র বিশ্বের অদ্বিতীয় প্রকৃত ঈশ্বর হিসেবে ঘোষণা করা হয়েছিল। পারসিক যুগে জনসমক্ষে ইয়াহওয়েহ্ নামটি উচ্চারণ করা নিষিদ্ধ হিসাবে বিবেচিত হয়; ইহুদিরা ঐশ্বরিক নামটির পরিবর্তে আদোনাই (אֲדֹנָי‬‎ যার অর্থ "আমার প্রভুগণ" শব্দটিকে বিকল্প হিসেবে বেঁছে নিলেও এলোহিমের ন্যায় একবচন হিসেবে ব্যবহার শুরু করে এবং পরবর্তীতে ৭০ খ্রিস্টাব্দে মন্দির ধ্বংস হয়ে যাওয়ার পর নামটির মূল উচ্চারণ লোকমুখে হারিয়ে যায়। প্রাচীন ইহুদি ধর্মের বাইরে খ্রিস্টপূর্ব ২য় থেকে ৫ম শতাব্দী পর্যন্ত ইয়াহওয়েহকে প্রায়শই গ্রিক-রোমান জাদুগ্রন্থে ইয়াও, আদোনাই, সাবাওথ, ও এলোয়াই নামে উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে।
