আদি পাপ হলো খ্রিস্টান ধর্মতত্ত্বে পাপপূর্ণতার অবস্থা যা সমস্ত মানুষ ভাগ করে, এবং পতনের কারণে আদম ও ইভের কাছ থেকে উত্তরাধিকারসূত্রে প্রাপ্ত। এটি আসল ধার্মিকতার অবমাননা এবং ঈশ্বরের প্রতিমূর্তি বিকৃতির সহিত জড়িত। কাহিনীটি বাইবেলীয় আদি পুস্তক, গীতসংহিতা ও রোমান - এ উল্লেখিত।

আদি পাপের সুনির্দিষ্ট মতবাদটি তৃতীয় শতাব্দীর জ্ঞানবাদের বিরুদ্ধে আইরেনিয়াসের সংগ্রামে বিকশিত হয়, এবং আউরেলিয়ুস আউগুস্তিনুস "original sin" বা "আদি পাপ" শব্দগুচ্ছটি প্রথম ব্যবহার করেন। আউগুস্তিনুস দ্বারা প্রভাবিত হয়ে, কার্থেজ পরিষদ ও অরেঞ্জ পরিষদ মণ্ডলীর আধিকারিক অভিধানে মূল পাপের বিষয়ে ধর্মতাত্ত্বিক অনুমান নিয়ে আসে।

মার্টিন লুথার ও জঁ কালভার মত প্রতিবাদী সংস্কারক আদি পাপকে কুপ্রবৃত্তির সাথে সমতুল্য করেছেন, নিশ্চিত করেছেন যে এটি অপ্সুদীক্ষার পরেও রয়ে গেছে এবং ভালো করার স্বাধীনতাকে সম্পূর্ণরূপে ধ্বংস করেছে, প্রস্তাব করেছে যে আদি পাপটি পাপ ছাড়া স্বাধীন ইচ্ছার ক্ষতি জড়িত। জ্যানসেনবাদী আন্দোলন, যাকে রোমান ক্যাথলিক মণ্ডলী ধর্মদ্রোহী হিসেবে ঘোষণা করেছিল, এটিও বজায় রেখেছিল যে আদি পাপ ইচ্ছার স্বাধীনতাকে ধ্বংস করে।  পরিবর্তে, ক্যাথলিক মণ্ডলীর প্রশ্নোত্তরমালা ঘোষণা করে যে "অপ্সুদীক্ষা, খ্রিস্টের অনুগ্রহের জীবন প্রদান করে, আদি পাপকে মুছে দেয় এবং একজন মানুষকে ঈশ্বরের দিকে ফিরিয়ে দেয়, কিন্তু প্রকৃতির পরিণতি, দুর্বল ও মন্দের দিকে ঝুঁকে পড়ে, মানুষের মধ্যে স্থির থাকে এবং তাকে ডেকে আনে আধ্যাত্মিক যুদ্ধে", এবং ট্রেন্ট পরিষদ উল্লেখ করে যে "যদিও আদমের প্রেক্ষাপটে সমস্ত মানুষ তাদের নির্দোষতা হারিয়েছিল [...] যদিও স্বাধীন ইচ্ছা, এটির ক্ষমতার মতো ক্ষয়প্রাপ্ত এবং নিচু হয়ে যায়, তাদের মধ্যে কোনভাবেই নিভে যায়নি।"
