যেসব দেশে মুসলিমরা বাস করেন তাদের একত্রে মুসলিম জাহান বলে। মুসলিমদের সমগ্র মনন, অবস্থান ও অস্তিত্ব জনিত পরিস্থিতিকে মুসলিম জাহান বলা হয়।

ইসলাম ধর্মের প্রচার শুরু হয় ৬১২ সালে।৬২২সালে মদীনায় প্রথম মুসলিম অধ্যুশিত রাজ্য তৈরি হয়।৬৩২ সালের মধ্যে মুহাম্মাদ(সঃ) আরবের অধিকাংশ অধিকারে আনেন।এরপর রশিদীয় খিলাফত প্রতিষ্ঠা হয়।।এই সময় অন্তর্দ্বন্দ্ব দেখা যায়। এরপ্র উমাইয়া বংশের শাসন শুরু হয়। তার পর আব্বাসীয় বংশ আসে। এরমধ্যে ইসলাম স্পেন থেকে চীন সীমান্ত অব্ধি ছড়িয়ে যায়। এরপর আফগান শাসকরা ভারত আক্রমণ করেন ও পরে উপমহাদেশেও মুসলিম রাষ্ট্র প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়। এরপর তুর্কিশক্তির উত্থান হয়। ক্রুসেড বা ধর্মযুদ্ধ বাধে। স্পেনে পুনরায় খ্রীস্টীয় শাসন হয়। এরমধ্যে উসমানীয় তুর্কিদের হাতে পুর্ব রোমান সাম্রাজ্যের পতন হয়। তারপ্র বেশিরভাগ মুসলিম রাষ্ট্রই সাম্রাজ্যবাদের কবলে পড়ে।
